Our Previous Work
Leeds Loft Conversion and Renovation
This loft conversion / loft renovation in Leeds was started early in July. The property was built in the late 1800s. It had some form of loft conversion done in the 1960's. The house sits in a row of stone cottages under a flight path for Leeds and Bradford airport so it had to be soundproofed.
The old loft conversion had no insulation, as was common in the sixties, and the room was not fit to use as a habitable room. The young family had just had their first child and wanted to make the loft conversion a master bedroom with ensuite.
We took it back to the bare structure and completed some strengthening work on collapsed roof purlin, fitted the correct amount of insulation and used sound proofing plasterboards due to the noise from the planes along with triple glazed quality velux windows. We then exposed some of the original stonework which was covered with plaster. This looks great, contrasting the original features with a modern look when the loft conversion is completed.
This image is of one of our team, Kenan, removing the old plaster early in the demolition stage of the loft. The new loft floor was extended by 10m2 giving it a much bigger feel. The velux windows will be fitted into the stone tiled roof along with the exposed purlins and plasterwork.
We really enjoyed this project. This loft has a lot of character with some nice modern features too, such as the ensuite and large roof windows which make for great views into the rear garden and beyond. We tucked the en-suite away into a corner of the loft and made a storage area above it but kept the purlin exposed along with some exposed stone.
This is the French oak sleeper we used for the vanity stand and surround in the ensuite. In the image it is on the saw in our workshop being cut down to various sizes. We cut it down and put through a thickness plainer. It was then stained and varnished and that was it. We wanted to keep the raw rustic look and it looked great when it was complete. It was a really nice finish to the ensuite in the loft conversion.
The completed ensuite looks great. The oak vanity unit was completely handmade and suits the old rustic style sink with a modern twist in the waterfall mixer tap. The tiles were fitted in a half bond style to add more interest. The customer supplied us with some nice travertine tiles and it all fits together with a great looking finish.
We fitted a heated towel rail in a purpose built recess at the shower entrance and a hidden cistern toilet to save on space. We enjoyed making it but more importantly the customers love it. It really is a great looking loft conversion with lots of character and a high quality finish. All work completed by our team from start to finish, we do not use sub contractors. All works are carried out by Mastercraft Developments employees.
These images show the roof work we completed on the property along with the triple glazed units we installed on the loft conversion.
The two smaller windows are at the front of the property. We had a lot of work to do on the front part of the roof due to the collapsed purlin. The roof had started to sag in the middle so we needed to strip the front of the roof so we could jack up the purlin. We then reinforced and strengthened the roof and finished by re-roofing using the existing stone.
This image shows the rear of the property. You can see 2 large windows which give fantastic views over leeds due to the property being positioned high up in horsforth. The smaller window is the ensuite window, allowing natural light to the ensuite.
With large windows, exposed stone and sharp angles contrasting modern with old, the completed loft conversion looks stunning. Our lofts are completed to a high standard. If you are thinking of having a loft conversion or home extension contact us for a free no obligation quote.
This image best describes the completed loft conversion: rustic, warm and with a soft glow. Everything in this loft was a challenge as is with most old buildings but it was worth the effort by the team. Vicky, the property owner, said " it's like waking up in a nice hotel room every morning " and she would certainly recommend us to friends & family. The loft did take slightly longer than expected but was completed on budget and to a high standard and that's what counts when it comes to your home. References are available on request. Halifax Loft Conversion
Earlier in the year we completed a rooflight loft conversion for a customer in Halifax. The homeowner, Mr Finnigan, was extremely distressed as the previous builder had completed the loft to a very poor standard and all the first floor ceilings had collapsed. On inspection it became clear that essential structural work and planning had not been completed before the floor was fitted.
There were no steels to form a load bearing floor and the staircase was constructed in a way that resulted in restricted access to the loft. We stripped the loft back to the bare structure and inserted the required steels. We then hung the floor in the correct way and then put the loft back together with a complete new functional staircase and central heating.
We also replaced the first floor ceilings. Chris and Jen the property owners were very happy with the finished loft conversion. We enjoyed completing the project and giving them the loft bedroom as the previous builder had left the property in an unfit state as it was unsafe. We gave them the loft conversion they wanted finished to a high standard.
We use real photos from our previous and ongoing jobs. We are loft conversion specialists and, as this particular job shows, if the work is not done by tradesmen who are trained in this field it can cause a lot of damage to property and disruption to a home.
